My Hash Tag Glimma Quilt (a.k.a. #glimmaquilt)

True confession #1: I don't like every quilt I make.  (Sometimes, my brain and my fabric just aren't as connected as I'd like them to be.)

True confesson #2: I do love this one! (I don't know about you, but I think I pulled this one off without a hitch!)

So I took this jelly roll of Lotta Jansdotter's fabric line called "Glimma," and searched for a modern sort of pattern for this ultra-modern fabric.  You know: pinwheels and four-patches just wouldn't do.  And the solid just had to be gray.  This shade is Kona Medium Gray.  I think it's a little dark for what I might usually choose, but I love it in this.

It didn't take long for me to decide that Camille Roskelly's Hash Tag Pattern was the one for me.  I mean: what's more modern than a hash tag?  Shoot, it's so modern that I don't even fully understand it.  (I'm not on Instagram and I don't really do too much on Facebook, so yeah... The hash tag still stumps me.)

Not that in to hash tags?  My friend, Anne, says it could also be a tic-tac-toe symbol. Ahh... yes.  Escaping the year 2014 for 1914?  Now that's more my style.

It seems that I didn't take enough pictures of the hash tags in order for you to see all the lovely fabrics.  Please click here to see Red Pepper Quilts' pretty photos of the fabric.

I sent it off to Logan of Chocolate Dipped Quilts and asked for this "square dance" pattern of interlocking squares and rectangles for the quilting.  It turned out wonderfully.  Thank you, Logan, for donating your awesome quilting skills!

I will also tell you that, though I was pressed for time, I decided to hand-stitch the binding to the backing.  What a great decision!  As I sat binding it (while watching Les Mis - love it!), I realized that the quilt really has a great weight to it.  I don't know if it's the size of the quilt, or the density of the quilting, or the extra weight of the piecing (I think this is the most piecing that I've ever done), but this quilt is going to be great for snuggling under.

I'm having a hard time giving this one up.  I'll be honest: I hope it brings in a ton of cash to help kids (like my Charlotte) who have brain cancer.  But along with that cash, I hope that someone just LOVES this quilt.

  3. visiting from crazy mum quilts, this is lovely and I think it is fantastic that it was for a charity. I do a lot of charity quilting and it is very satisfying. Though I have to say that I use my sewing machine to do the binding.
